Keep Exercising!

Living in an assisted living facility doesn’t mean you should stop exercising.

Set reasonable goals for what you want to accomplish based on what you’re capable of. Use the suggestions below to help you set a plan and meet your workout/exercising goals.

SPECIFIC
Write out each specific detail of your goal.
Be sure to include who, what, where, when and why.

MEASURABLE
Provide several tools to measure progress such as body weight, inches around hips, waist and thighs, progress pictures and a reflection journal to see additional changes in mood, sleep and stress.

ATTAINABLE
Your knowledge, skills and abilities should allow for your goal achievement.

RELEVANT
The goal should be relevant to your broader goals.
Take time to think about your goal: how will it help you?

TIMELY
Provide an appropriate amount of time for your goal.
Create a timeframe to enable a sense of urgency in reaching your goal.

TIPS FOR GOAL SETTING

CHOOSE ONE FOCUS
What area of your health needs the most attention and make that the focus?
This could include exercise, nutrition, hydration, sleep, stress or social wellbeing.

CHOOSE BEHVAIORAL GOALS
Focus on the behaviors it will take for you to achieve any weight related goals.

WRITE IT DOWN
Take the time to write out your goals and plans on how to achieve them.
Visualize your tasks to stay on track and better overcome any sudden barriers.

USE A SUPPORT SYSTEM
Talk with a health care professional.
Find a workout buddy to stay accountable.
Confide in a family member during any hardships.

CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESSES
Use your support system to share your successes.
Reward your accomplishment with a massage, training or cooking class.

STAY POSITIVE
Results take time and consistency.
Look back on your measuring tools to see progress.
